MTV: Hey MC. ‘U Can’t Touch This’ is all over TV and radio right now. Who would you like to see cover it?
MC: Anyone who did it and interpreted it in their own way; artists who had fun with it and were excited about it. There’s a youth group who’ve covered it and I love their version.
MTV: How would you feel about ’Stop. Gaga Time’? or ’Stop. Jay-Z time’?
MC: Ah, rappers don’t really cover each other’s songs so I don’t know about that.
MTV: What do you think of Hammer-pants being back in fashion? Does it make you proud?
MC: It’s very complimentary to see, twenty years later, a style that you designed and created and that the finest designers in high fashion around the world are now doing their version of. It’s very humbling; it’s recycled itself 20 years later which means that it’s a staple in culture, that’s heavy.
MTV: Who are you loving in music right now?
MC: Beyonce. I’m into her as an artist, period. She’s a hard worker; she dances; she’s able to sing on an operatic scale. She’s non-stop, she acts and she’s not a skinny girl. To be a bigger woman, she goes all out. She’s committed to the art. She’s my favourite diva. I actually like her little sister, Solange, too. Musically, she’s on the opposite side to Beyonce. She’s very creative and works with throwback sounds and melodies.
MTV: Who’s your favourite rapper?
MC: My top rapper is Kanye. He’s a super-talented artist.
MTV: What album are you listening to on a loop at the moment?
MC: Whitney’s new album, ’I Look To You’. I’ve been playing it on a repeat. Whitney as an artist is amazing. Period.
MTV: What about your tweenie popstrels? Are you a fan of your Mileys and Jonai?
MC: Yes, absolutely. The Jonas Brothers have such a big following and that is what music is all about. Miley, I think, will be around for a long time. I think she’ll make the transition into adulthood and I’ll think she’ll do it well.
