Kanye West broke onto rap scene with rhymes flying and record smashing in 2004. It only took a year for the Atlanta native to shatter records by earning himself ten nominations at the 47th Annual Grammy Awards in 2005. The outspoken newcomer took out five of the awards for his debut record 'The College Dropout' and officially put himself on the map in the industry.

Kanye is known for his overconfident attitude and extravagance which is often perceived as arrogant and smug, though the records are selling and he certainly knows how to keep things interesting.

In 2004 Kanye was nominated for three American Music Awards, after losing the Best New Artist to country newcomer Gretchen, Kanye told the Associated press "I feel I was definitely robbed...I was the best new artist this year". He later apologized for the outburst in an interview for Entertainment Weekly. The controversy continued in 2005, when Kanye accused President George Bush of not wanting to help victims of the Katrina Hurricane on a live televised Concert for Hurricane Relief.

"George Bush doesn't care about black people." Become the headlines for the next two weeks. In 2006 Kanye was the Best Hip-hop artist at the MTV Europe Music Awards, but unfortunately he was also named the worst sore loser of the year. He was apparently so disgusted that he didn't win that he stormed on stage as the award was being given, saying,''I had the best video.'Touch the Sky' was a great movement in TV''. He has since given up his diva ways and performed at the recenrt 2008 MTV VMA's.

Kanye dropped the follow up 'Late Registration' in 2005 and hits such as 'Gold Digger' featuring Jamie Foxx quickly became club favourites and perminant fixtures on radio and music television playlists. The smash record was followed by 'Graduation' in 2007 with a huge production 'Glow In The Dark' tour which have wowed audiences all over the world.

Recently Kanye has been back in studio producing again. Some of the hits he produced were for Twista ('Overnight Celebrity'), Janet Jackson ('I Want You'), Brandy ('Talk About Our Love'), the Game ('Dreams'), Common ('Go!'), and Keyshia Cole ('I Changed My Mind'). Kanye also founded his own record label 'Good Music', and in conjunction with Sony BMG and things are never dull around the superstar.

His raw ambition and often confused demeanor make him ultimately an endearing and entertaining fixture of the commercial mucic scene.

Kanye West’s last three albums, ‘College Dropout’, ‘Late Registration’ and ‘Graduation’ have sold over 11.5 Million albums worldwide to date. ‘808’s & Heartbreak’ has launched Kanye West further into the stratosphere of greatness he currently resides.
